An Overview of our Cemani Generations
Gen Purple:
The first milestone in our breeding program, Gen Purple, was developed by pairing high-quality Cemani hens with a carefully selected, unrelated rooster. Finding the right rooster took over a year, but the resulting offspring displayed dark pigmentation and many desirable traits. However, some areas needed improvement—body structure could be gamier, tongues darker, and occasional white feather tips (which faded to black) indicated the need for refinement. While there was no feather leakage, variation in quality led to further development.
Gen Winter Purple:
To enhance Gen Purple, the hens were bred with a darker tongue-line rooster who had a black mouth and dark gray tongue. Although his temperament was not ideal, his genetics strengthened the next generation. The hens from Gen Winter Purple then became the foundation for the next phase of breeding.
Gen White:
The Gen Winter Purple hens were bred with a new bloodline rooster, bringing exceptional quality to the flock. This rooster had a partially black/gray tongue and mouth, a hallmark of Indonesian Ayam Cemani standards. His fibro pigmentation, feathering, and demeanor were outstanding, further improving the genetic quality of the line. The offspring of Gen White exceeded expectations, showing stronger pigmentation, improved structure, and increased vitality.
Each generation is bred to SOP standards from carefully selected, unrelated bloodlines. The flock is partially free-ranged, fed daily kitchen scraps, and socialized with children.
Gen White comes from a bloodline that has a black tongue rooster over the flock. The hens mated to this rooster come from 3 other SOP lines, including the gen Winter Purple. The genetic diversity helps ensure fertility and vigor among the offspring and future generations. Tongue pigmentation starts lighter and darkens over time, reaching its peak at one year old.
By prioritizing genetic diversity, some natural foraging, and a well-rounded environment, this program has produced healthier birds, higher fertility rates, and a more vigorous, resilient flock that continues to evolve with each generation.
